Teacher of the Month
The Alabama Public Television Excellence in Education Award is a monthly recognition program for kindergarten through 12th Grade educators across the state of Alabama.
“Alabama Public Television honors the guiding lights of our future by illuminating the dedication and passion of an Alabama classroom teacher every month,” says Wayne Reid, Executive Director. “Through this program, we celebrate their tireless commitment to shaping young minds, reminding us that great education begins with exceptional educators.”

We are thrilled to announce that kindergarten teacher Willie Davis is the September 2023 recipient of the APT Excellence in Education award! Mr. Davis currently teaches at Charles Hard Elementary School in Bessemer, Alabama.

Daphne Middle School
Susan Norrell is the inaugural recipient for the APT Excellence in Education award! Ms. Norrell is a gifted teacher at Daphne Middle School with 15 years of experience. She is enthusiastic about enhancing lessons and encouraging fellow educators to innovate. We were excited to hear that Ms. Norrell actively uses APT and PBS LearningMedia resources in her classroom as well!
Nominate Extraordinary Teachers
Each recipient will receive $500 to be used for professional development, classroom materials, supplies, visiting experts, field trips or other resources, products, events, etc. that directly impacts the success of students and the promotion of learning.
“As a former classroom teacher, I understand the challenges that teachers face on a daily basis,” says Dr. Briana Morton, Vice President of Educational Services. “Alabama has so many incredible classroom teachers and I am thrilled to showcase teachers who have inspired, engaged, and demonstrated innovative approaches to teaching and learning. The Excellence in Education award is just one way that Alabama Public Television can highlight these exceptional educators and inspire current and future educators across our state.”
