American Buffalo Preview Screening

Alabama Public Television and the Shelby County Arts Council present an exclusive preview screening of excerpts from The American Buffalo, a new documentary from Ken Burns on Friday, Oct. 13 in Columbiana. The screening begins at 7:30 p.m., preceded by a wine and food reception at 7:00 p.m. Film musician and composer Bobby Horton will be present at the event to share some music and answer audience questions. A seasoned performer, Horton is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and music historian. He has performed with the musical-comedy trio, Three On A String, throughout the United States and Canada for more than 50 years. He has also produced and performed music scores for twenty PBS films by Ken Burns including The Civil War and The American Buffalo. Tickets are free but must be reserved and picked up in advance by calling the Shelby County Arts Council at 205-669-0044 or by calling Alabama Public Television at 205-451-0152.

Mobile Chamber Music Concerts

Mobile Chamber Music Society is pleased to offer free admission to all students throughout its 2023-24 concert season, thanks to a generous grant from of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and The Caring Foundation. The five-concert season begins on October 1, 2023 with the famous Borromeo Quartet, and runs until March 17, 2024, concluding with the Gryphon Trio and Anthony McGill, Principal Clarinet with the NY Philharmonic Orchestra. Mobile Chamber Music is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that has been bringing world-renown musicians to Mobile and the Gulf Coast since 1961. Concerts are on Sundays at Laidlaw Performing Arts Center, on the University of South Alabama campus. They begin at 3 PM. Any student seeking free admission should arrive at Laidlaw Performing Arts Center prior to 3 PM on the day to the concert.
