When do you start spring gardening prep in Alabama?

Alabama’s long growing season lets us start earlier than much of the country. February is when gardening really begins, especially indoors. North Alabama runs about 1–2 weeks behind Central and South Alabama, but this checklist works statewide with small timing adjustments. Always watch the weather — a late cold snap is normal.

Tips for Alabama Beginner Gardeners

  •   Start tomatoes early — February indoors is normal
  •   Expect late frosts even after warm spells
  •   Heat and humidity require good airflow
  •   Mulch is essential in Alabama
  •   Fall gardening is just as important as spring
