Randy Scott is a native of Montgomery, Alabama. He’s a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, now known as Percy Julian High School. Upon graduating from high school, he went on to enroll at Troy University.

There he earned a BS in Science majoring in Broadcast Journalism. He also minored in Speech Communications and Economics. After graduating from Troy, Randy started his professional career working at Alabama Public Television in Montgomery as a Production Assistant and Editor. He then moved to Mobile, Alabama  to continue his pursuit of a career in television.   

He landed at WPMI working in their production department as a Master Control Operator. Soon afterwards, he moved across town to take a job with WALA as a Production Assistant. There he served as an Assistant Technical Director, Cameraman, Editor, Graphics Artist and Audio Operator.

He returned to WPMI, this time in their News Department as a General Assignment Reporter. He was given the opportunity to cover a wide range of stories including local government, crime, education, athletics, politics, health, weather and entertainment.

His career then took him to Birmingham’s WIAT as a Reporter and Field Producer. He then got an opportunity to return to Alabama Public Television in Montgomery as a Reporter/Producer and Anchor. Randy’s role now is as Reporter/Executive Producer & Anchor.

At APT, Politics is a big component of the news covered by their journalists. Especially during Regular and Special Sessions of the state’s Legislature. But coverage extends beyond the politics when it comes to items stemming from Political storylines. Stories have taken Randy from Washington DC to Atlanta to Philadelphia covering news affecting Alabama citizens.
