As the year comes to a close, one Alabama agency is doing it on a good note. The Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission (AMCC) held a meeting some of its members say is “very productive.” Capitol Journal’s Randy Scott attended the meeting and reports on the commission’s progress.
“We’ve waited a long time to get to this point…I’m tickled we can this far,” AMCC Chairman Rex Vaughn says.
There’s a sense of success coming out of the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission. After some 4 years after being created, the organization has made some progress to help the state organize its medical cannabis program.
“For the commission to consider the administrative Law Judges orders…for the reward and denial of dispensary licenses,” Vaughn says.
“Those 4 licenses awarded today…will be responsible for their license fee. 28 days from today…will issue by rule,” AMCC General Counsel Justin Aday says.
Developing a viable system to monitor those who grow, sell and distribute medical cannabis in Alabama is the chief goal of the Medical Cannabis Commission…In a recent meeting, the group saw some agreements which will make those goals a reality. From the fields to the finished product, the commission wants to cover all the bases.
“You know based on everything from the ALJ, dispensaries are going to be able to start around January 8th,” Pharmacist Sam Blakemore says. “People should be getting paid money right? Probably not a lot initially.”
“The medical Cannabis industry has been debated over and over. It’s been hamstrung by litigation. But doing things right, there’s progress and we have!” Vaughn says.
