UPDATE:
Explaining Today: The Future of America’s Past, the professional learning series for educators, funded through the National Archives and Records Administration, is moving to an all-virtual institute. Due to recent budget cuts to educational programs at the federal level, they may no longer guarantee that funding will be available to cover expenses for our host institutions and partner organizations, or to cover stipends for attendees, as originally planned.
While we can no longer offer stipends, during the workshop, Annie Evans with New American History, will share opportunities for participants to earn a stipend for developing curriculum work funded through New American History for those interested in pursuing additional collaborations into the new school year.
Based on current enrollment, we will consolidate the summer institutes into two virtual sessions held on Zoom:
June 9-11, 10 am-1 pm EST / 9 -12 am CT
-OR-
July 21-23, 10 am-1 pm EST / 9 -12 am CT
Both sessions will now include optional Office Hours in the afternoon from 2-4 pm EST/1-3 pm CT.
Participants previously registered for either of these dates do not need to do anything at this time unless their plans have changed. Please notify us if you are no longer able to attend or would prefer to change the date of your original registration. Those educators originally registered for July 8-10 may email me to let me know if they would like to be added to either of those sessions listed above.
We appreciate the work all educators are doing to support their students and communities. We hope you will join us this summer.

DETAILS:
American PublicTelevision and Alabama Public Television are offering summer train-the-trainer workshops for upper elementary, secondary and pre-service teachers. Each workshop uses episodes from the Emmy Award-winning documentary series The Future of America’s Past to model how teachers can develop learning resources to increase student media literacy and critical thinking skills through digital humanities projects that feature primary source/archival materials. Workshops will be led by Annie Evans from New American History with presentations from local historical sites and museum partners.
All participants will receive professional development credit.
