This is a State of Alabama Merit System position and may be filled as either:

  • Training Specialist I (Class Code 10821)
  • State Professional Trainee (Class Code 11915)

Alabama Public Television (APT) is seeking a qualified professional to join its Education Division as an Education Training Specialist. Depending on qualifications, this position may be filled at either the Training Specialist I level or the State Professional Trainee level. Candidates who meet the educational requirements but do not yet possess the required professional experience are encouraged to apply through the trainee option. This option is designed to prepare candidates for potential advancement to the Training Specialist position upon meeting the necessary experience qualifications.

This position is responsible for collaborating with internal teams to design, develop, and deliver high-quality professional development, instructional resources, and technical assistance to educators across the state. This position will also work closely with community partners and stakeholders to coordinate and implement educational outreach programs and services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver on-site and virtual professional development for educators
  • Create and maintain instructional materials and educational resources
  • Provide technical assistance and ongoing support to program participants
  • Collaborate with community partners to plan and facilitate outreach initiatives
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of educational programs and events
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to training and outreach activities

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking and presentation skills
  • Ability to present information to large and small groups in both virtual and in-person settings
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with educators, school administrators, community partners, and stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging professional development and training programs

How You May Qualify

Training Specialist I (Fully Qualified)

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Two (2) years of professional experience in the development, administration, and evaluation of employee training programs.

State Professional Trainee

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Intended for candidates who meet the educational requirements but do not yet possess the two (2) years of professional experience required for the Training Specialist I classification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Middle School Education, Secondary Education, or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated experience in developing educational or instructional materials
  • Demonstrated experience creating and delivering presentations, training sessions, and professional development using presentation software, virtual meeting platforms, and instructional technology.

Additional Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Alabama driver’s license
  • Travel within the State of Alabama, including occasional overnight travel, as needed
  • Lifting and transporting training materials and equipment as needed

Salary Range

Training Specialist I

$38,364.00 – $69,012.00 annually

State Professional Trainee

$36,509 – $61,063 annually
