Kounte Hampton Threadgill

Auburn High School

Auburn, Alabama

Kounte Hampton Threadgill, a senior at Auburn High School in Auburn, is a remarkable young man whose character is defined by both academic excellence and extraordinary courage. As his IB Counselor and College Coordinator, James Tindell has witnessed firsthand Kounte’s dedication to his studies and his commitment to making a positive impact. Kounte is currently pursuing the Alabama High School Diploma with the Advanced Academic Endorsement, as well as the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma, a testament to his intellectual curiosity and drive.

Kounte’s academic pursuits are complemented by his active participation in a variety of school organizations. He is a valued member of the high school’s E-Sports Team, Chess Club, and High Fashion Club. Beyond his involvement in extracurriculars, Kounte actively contributes to the improvement of his community. He serves as a student participant on the Strategic Planning Committee of Auburn City Schools, lending his voice and perspective to the important work of shaping the future of education in his city.

While Kounte’s academic and extracurricular achievements are impressive, it is his act of selfless bravery that truly sets him apart. Kounte is being recognized for his extraordinary heroism in rescuing his four younger siblings from a house fire. On August 26, 2020, at the age of 13, Kounte ran through flames to save his family. When a fire broke out in their home, Kounte’s mother, Amber Threadgill, was unable to reach her children. Without hesitation, Kounte braved the intense heat and smoke, pulling his younger siblings to safety through a window. He then re-entered the burning house to rescue his baby brother. His courageous actions that night saved the lives of his siblings.

Kounte’s heroism has been widely recognized. He was honored by the City of Auburn and the Auburn Fire Department, with Mayor Ron Anders Jr. proclaiming September 25, 2020, “Kounte Threadgill Day” in Auburn. He also received the Auburn Public Safety Distinguished Citizens Award. News stories documented his bravery and the profound impact it had on his family and community.

Beyond his academic and heroic achievements, Kounte is a certified team member at the local Chick-fil-A, where he has worked since March 2021. This demonstrates his commitment to responsibility and his ability to balance work with his other commitments. Kounte’s cumulative weighted GPA is 3.69. He ranks 313 out of 670 in his class. Kounte Threadgill is an exceptional young man whose dedication to academics, commitment to his community, and extraordinary act of heroism make him a truly deserving candidate for recognition. His story serves as an inspiration to us all.
