Be My Neighbor Day is easily one of my favorite days of the year! It's a community event inspired by the PBS KIDS show Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. It is a free, family-friendly event happening on Saturday, February 28th that celebrates kindness and highlights ways to be a caring neighbors. While the event is focused on children ages 2-8, neighbors of all ages are welcome!

My Favorite Daniel Tiger Memory
My favorite moment with Daniel Tiger was when we got to join The Ukesters, a local ukulele band, at the Boaz Public Library. A close second was when Daniel Tiger pet a snake at Landmark Park in Dothan!

What can you do at Be My Neighbor Day?
At Be My Neighbor Day, families can participate in activities known as "trolley stops." Each trolley stop focuses on a way to share or give back to your community. For example, you can decorate a bookmark to give to the reader in your family. Other trolley stops include packing activity bags for children in health clinic waiting rooms. We also include a community craft that children can add to once the day is done, like this kindness chain pictured below.

Volunteers and Community Partners
The team at Alabama Public Television is a huge part of why this day is successful. Another huge part is volunteers! It is so special getting to meet so many great neighbors. We work with community partners, first responders, high schools, and colleges to make this happen.
On a personal note, my family has been involved with Be My Neighbor Day since I joined the APT team 3 years ago! Below is a photo of my parents making cotton candy in Dothan. This is something they would do at my school festivals growing up!
The next photo is my nephew enjoying the day in Boaz in his shirt that came from Mister Rogers’ hometown.

Look For the Helpers
Mister Rogers famously said to "look for the helpers." Be My Neighbor Day is a way to meet the helpers around you, as well as learn how you can be a helper for your community. Join us for our next Be My Neighbor Day on February 28th from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the New Heights Community Resource Center in Tuscaloosa to make your own special memories with your neighbors!
