Sutton Gore of Westminster Christian Academy won the Peggy Haywood Hair Award for her documentary "The Forgotten Victims: Johnny Robinson and Virgil Ware the day that Rocked America."

Jessiah Ellis, Adrian Preston and Lavender Williams of New Beginnings Educational Center won the Mary Allen Jolley Certificate of Merit for their poster board "30 Years of Justice: Knight vs. State of Alabama—Challenging Racial Discrimination in Education."

Winners were announced earlier this month during the 50th annual Alabama History Day at Auburn University at Montgomery, a state-level affiliate of National History Day presented by the Alabama Humanities Alliance, dedicated to celebrating Alabama history and student excellence.

Alabama History Day is a year-long program that offers students a creative and dynamic way to engage with history and make it relevant for today. The Alabama Humanities Alliance presents History Day annually, with the competition open to all public, private, and home schools.
