About the Young Heroes Program

Who can be nominated?

Any 9th through 12th grade student who resides in Alabama (who is not over 18), and currently attends an Alabama public, private, or parochial school.

How do I nominate someone?

Please visit our nominate a hero page.  You can nominate your hero online or print the nomination form, fill it out and mail it to G. Dwayne Johnson, Alabama Public Television, 2112 11th Ave. S., Suite 400, Birmingham, AL 35205.

The child’s parent or guardian must give permission for the nomination, along with permission for APT to use the child’s name and/or likeness on television, print, internet and all other forms of media in the event he or she is selected.

What is the criteria for selecting the honorees?

The Young Heroes Board is looking for students who have excelled in academics, given of themselves through school involvement and community service, and — most importantly — succeeded in the face of extraordinary difficulty or hardship.

How many students will be honored?

At least 5 students will be honored this year.

What do honored students receive?

Each student selected as a Young Hero will receive a $10,000 scholarship, a laptop computer and other prizes.
