Instead of focusing on traditional athletics, VARSITY EXTRA highlights the creativity, career readiness, technical skills, and real-world opportunities happening inside Alabama’s schools every day.

Pinson Valley High School | Special Effects Academy
Students learn the art of movie magic through one of the nation’s only high school Special Effects programs. From creature design and prosthetics to filmmaking and practical effects, students bring cinematic visions to life while gaining hands-on experience in the entertainment industry. Featured in this episode is the academy’s original horror concept: MOTHMAN.

Hewitt-Trussville High School | Culinary Academy
Students master professional cooking techniques, restaurant operations, teamwork, and hospitality skills that prepare them for careers in the food and service industry while gaining real-world culinary experience.
