A Wild Alabama Night!

Explore some of my favorite Alabama natural treasures with these 3 incredible documentaries.

THURSDAY AT 8:00PM

I love to share programs celebrating Alabama’s great outdoors, and this week I’ve put together a few of my favorites.

DISCOVERING ALABAMA: TUMBLING WATERS
We'll start off with a trip on the water with Dr. Doug Phillips, as he explores a few of Alabama's 132,000 miles of rivers and streams in Tumbling Waters. In addition to great scenery, you have a chance to enjoy the natural sounds of flowing water, rustling leaves, gentle rain and the thundering roar of Noccalula Falls.

DISCOVERING ALABAMA: INDIGENOUS MOUNDS TRAIL
Following that at 8:30, stay with us as Doug traces Alabama's Indigenous Mounds Trail. Travel from the Gulf Coast to the mountains and discover the ancient earthen structures you can find throughout the state. I've been to Moundville Archeological Park many times with my kids and recommend it highly for family trips or a solo adventure.

THE CARNIVOROUS KINGDOM
Finally, environmentalist and documentarian Ben Raines' film The Carnivorous Kingdom takes you into Alabama's wild bog lands. Ms. Thursa Long grew up here and lives about a hundred feet from where she was born 92 years ago. She says you could say she hasn't been around much, but she's positive you couldn't find a prettier place anywhere. Pitcher plants thrive in amazing color and diversity in these bogs, and Ben's film brings them right into your living room.

I hope you enjoy this small collection of "Wild Alabama" and strike out to explore some of these outdoor treasures yourself. You'll find many more Alabama nature adventures any time on the free PBS app.
