A CAPITOL FOURTH: 250th WEEKEND CELEBRATION

Join the celebration live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Friday, July 3 at 7:00pm, followed immediately by an encore presentation at 8:30pm. Joining the birthday bash is multi-platinum hitmaker and country music icon Trace Adkins. The program features special musical performances, including the debut of country star Trace Adkins’ new song, “American Made.” Other performers include Chicago, Patti LaBelle, Kool & The Gang, Carly Pearce, Alan Jackson, the cast of the Tony Award-nominated Broadway smash-hit musical Just In Time starring Matthew Magnusson, Olivia Holt, and Carrie St. Louis; Angel Blue, and the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly.

Alabama Public Television presents live coverage of the state’s 250th birthday celebration at American Village on July 4. The show includes performances by The Blind Boys of Alabama, patriotic music from the Montevallo Community Band, performances by historical interpreters, video messages from Governor Kay Ivey, Senator Katie Britt and the American 250 Alabama Commission and a huge fireworks show. Capitol Journal’s Todd Stacey and Melanie Poole of American Village host the coverage.

Set in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg, the two-hour program pays tribute to America’s Semi-quincentennial with live performance, historic interpretation, music, narration and large-scale visual spectacle that honors the past, engages the present, and helps inspire America’s future – all from the place where the path to independence truly began. Featuring Ken Burns, Judy Collins, Michael Feinstein, Ryan Speedo Green, Kelli O’Hara, Richard Thomas, Adrienne Warren, Leah Glenn Dance Theatre, Virginia Chorale and more. The evening culminates with a dramatic fireworks and drone display set to a patriotic score performed by the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band.
