Genetically Engineered Salmon

Can fish that have been modified to grow faster help feed the world? Fish are an important source of protein for much of the world, and more people are eating fish now than ever before. Yet, a third of global fish stocks are in danger, even as fish farms have tripled production over the last 20 years. But one small Canadian company is producing genetically engineered salmon it says could help meet the world's demand, though critics contend the venture is a dangerous step in the wrong direction. NewsHour Weekend's Megan Thompson reports. This is the first story in our special series, 'The Future of Food,' which was produced with support from the Pulitzer Center and will be broadcast during the next several months with reports from around the globe.
