Screening – Sink the Alabama
WHEN:
Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 6:30pm
WHERE:
GulfQuest National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico
Join us at GulfQuest National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico for a public screening of APT’s newest documentary: SINK THE ALABAMA. During the American Civil War, Raphael Semmes was captain of the cruiser CSS Alabama, the most successful commerce raider in maritime history. Semmes was later denounced by Abraham Lincoln as a “pirate,’ with a bounty on his head by the U.S. Navy Department. A combination of documentary and dramatization from multiple viewpoints, the story of the CSS Alabama – and Semmes himself – is a cautionary tale of bravado and rebellion. Producer Robert Clem will introduce the film – and will be available for a Q&A after the screening, along with featured historian and author John Sledge. The screening will be followed by a reception. This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
