Learn tips to make lessons more interactive and fun! On Saturday, June 19, join Alabama Public Television for a FREE virtual training on a variety of early childhood education topics. We will be joined by our keynote speaker Kevin Cornell, aka Mister C, the host of Full Steam Ahead and APT’s new series DIY Science Time.

There will be two breakout sessions for early childhood education providers. Stick around until the end of the training, which is when we will be giving away some PBS KIDS swag and children’s books!

Session One Breakout Options

THIS BREAKOUT SESSION IS FULL | Stories and Songs, Oh, My! Use Books & Music to Enrich Learning in the Infant & Toddler Classroom 

This training is designed to bring reading and music into the infant and toddler classroom in a fun, simple way. This training will provide ideas on how to use books to extend learning for toddlers and how to use developmentally appropriate music and movement songs for infants and toddlers.

Build, Discover, and Learn through Block Play 

This training will encourage and support the natural curiosity of block play through discovery, building, improvising, and learning. Participants will learn ways to inspire and boost their children’s imagination through PBS KIDS programming, games, and children’s books. APT’s Summer and After School Learning Kit- Part 1

This interactive hands-on workshop introduces participants to the Summer and Afterschool Learning Kit, an educational kit designed for summer and afterschool professionals who work with children ages 4-8. The kit contains over 40 theme-based activity plans designed specifically to meet the needs of children in extended care programs. In addition, the kit contains DVDs containing PBS Kids programs, more than 25 children’s books, and hands-on activities cards designed to promote learning in a summer or after-school setting.

THIS BREAKOUT SESSION IS FULL | “I DID IT! Let’s Talk Potty Training and Toddler Development” 

This training will explore the physical, behavioral, and mental readiness signs to look for to have potty training success! We will discuss how to help the child, how to communicate with parents and tips to work together as a team as you tackle potty training!

In this workshop, we will discuss ways to plant and grow vegetables and herbs, indoors and outdoors, with simple, but cost-effective materials. We will also explore fun ways to use PBS KIDS resources and children’s books while planning our gardens. Let’s start gardening!

Alabama Historical Heroes 

Join us we explore the lives and specific contributions of extraordinary people from Alabama. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to native Alabama leaders in a new and engaging way. This training is designed to provide educators with the resources they need to spark children’s curiosity about their world  in an age-appropriate way.

KIDS and Allergies: What to Look For 

Every teacher knows that kids can be picky eaters.  Is it just the child being picky, or does the child have a food allergy or a food intolerance?  This training will identify what to look for and how to treat common food and environmental allergies.  With the help of PBS KIDS resources, this training will provide participants with materials and hands-on activities to encourage children and teachers to recognize allergic reactions and know how to deal with them.
