Virtual Event Focuses on Alabama

Alabama Civil Rights Trail takes center stage with “Travels with Darley” and Smithsonian Event

Join Emmy Award-nominated PBS television host Darley Newman and special guests for a sneak preview of two upcoming TRAVELS WITH DARLEY episodes on the Alabama Civil Rights Trail during a special Smithsonian Associates Virtual Event. The episodes premiere January 22 and 29 on Alabama Public Television.

The Smithsonian Evening Lecture/Seminar is a ticketed event with a limited number of free passes available for redemption. Contact [email protected] to register for the event.

The upcoming TRAVELS WITH DARLEY episodes invite travelers to follow in the footsteps of legends and activists such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks. The collection of museums, churches, national park and other landmarks in Montgomery, Birmingham and Selma vividly bring to life the people, events and ideals that advanced the fight for social justice during the 1950s and ’60s. such as the iconic Selma-to-Montgomery marches of 1965. Darley offers tips on area guides and experts whose knowledge of the trail can deepen your experience, as well as recommendations for great local food, drink, lodging, and hotspots along the way.
