The New Space Race

Join American Experience for a conversation about what drives space exploration and who gets to participate. Who will own the stars?

Live Conversation Thursday, August 19 at 3PM

As the Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic space programs successfully send civilians to space for the first time, new questions about space travel have arisen. Who gets to go to space? Is space travel only for the rich? Why are we so fascinated by space, and where are we going next?

American Experience presents a virtual PAST FORWARD conversation around the history of space exploration, and what the future of space travel and tourism might look like. This event is inspired by the American Experience films, Chasing the Moon and Space Men.

FEATURED GUESTS:

Roger Launius - former NASA chief historian and Principal of Launius Historical Services
Anna Voelker - Project Lead for Mission: AstroAccess and Executive Director of the SciAccess Initiative.
Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides - Co-Creator of Yuri’s Night and Lead Trainer at SpaceKind

The discussion will be moderated by Jermaine Fowler, creator and host of The Humanity Archive.

The event will be streamed live on American Experience’s YouTube and
Facebook pages.
