Unforgettable Nights
Public television producers have been working overtime for the past year to deliver an amazing line-up of new specials for our Spring membership drive, the most important fundraising campaign of the year for Alabama Public Television. We hope you'll tune-in and love what you see. And of course we hope you will also help us reach our fundraising goal of $75,000 to help pay for all the other great programs we plan to bring you in the coming year.
The drive begins on Friday, Feb. 24 at 8:30pm with Great Performances: The Magic of Spirituals. Glimpse behind the curtain at opera legends Kathleen Battle and Jessye Norman’s famed concert at Carnegie Hall on March 18, 1990, featuring performance clips and new interviews with opera star Angel Blue, Met Opera General Manager Peter Gelb and more.
On Saturday the music continues at 6:30pm with the return of popular Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell in a new concert captured at Castlebar, Ireland. That's followed at 8pm with Elvis Presley: 68 Comeback Special. Watch one of the great moments in rock and roll history as Elvis performs some of the best music of his life. At 9:30pm, The Seven Ages of Elvis explores the seven distinct phases of Elvis's career and their historical context. We finish the evening at 11:30pm with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - The Hits, The History & Dirt Does Dylan.
We begin Sunday evening at 7:00pm with drama - or more accurately, a celebration of the great drama that has come to us from the MASTERPIECE series Endeavour for the past ten years. Endeavour: A Countdown to the Final Goodbye explores favorite characters, episodes and locations from the series which premieres its final season later this year. After that we return to music with John Denver's Rocky Mountain High at 8:30pm, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the album with a live concert from 1974. Then at 10:00pm, Peter Frampton at Royal Albert Hall features the GRAMMY-winning guitarist in his Royal Albert Hall concert taped in November 2022. The music icon brings his virtuosic playing to his greatest hits, including “Show Me the Way,” “Baby, I Love Your Way” and many more.
On Monday night at 7:00pm, join us for a brand-new performance of Les Miserables: The Staged Concert. Seen by over 120 million people worldwide, Les Misérables is undisputedly one of the world’s most popular musicals. Coinciding with its 35th triumphant year in London's West End, Cameron Mackintosh produced a spectacular sell-out staged concert version at the Gielgud Theatre featuring an all-star cast including Michael Ball as Javert, Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean, Carrie Hope Fletcher as Fantine, and Matt Lucas as Thénardier.
Tuesday night at 7:00pm, Black Broadway: A Proud History, A Limitless Future celebrates legendary performances and roles made famous by Black artists as well as the new generation of Black Broadway stars.
