Great Alabama Barbecue

Meet Alabama barbecue legends tonight on APT and join us for a live taste of great barbecue Sunday at Back Forty Beer Company in Birmingham!

This week Alabama Public Television presents a flavorful double feature celebrating the heart and soul of Alabama barbecue. Norton Dill's film Q – ALABAMA’S BARBECUE LEGENDS explores the full range of barbecue flavors across the state, and the GREAT ALABAMA PUBLIC TELEVISION BARBECUE COOK-OFF provides a sampling of some great barbecue set to the incredible music and storytelling of Three on a String and Sean of the South.

As much of a rivalry as an Alabama-Auburn football game, the barbecue scene in Alabama boasts an array of flavors, each uniquely tailored to the state’s taste. Ready to impress even the most discerning barbecue aficionado, Alabama’s barbecue joints take center stage in Norton Dill’s documentary, Q – ALABAMA’S BARBECUE LEGENDS. Discover the stories from these legendary pitmasters from the northern tip of the state to the Gulf Coast and enjoy this fascinating journey through the world of Alabama barbecue on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. (Or watch free now!)

Sunday afternoon we invite barbecue enthusiasts and families to indulge in a mouthwatering competition featuring 20 barbecue teams showcasing their smoky creations.  Join us at Back Forty Beer Company across from historic Sloss Furnace in Birmingham from Noon until 4:00pm.
