It's finally here. Mr Bates vs The Post Office made waves in Britain when it aired earlier this year, prompting a million people to sign a petition for a new law in response to this real-life UK scandal.

"What scandal?" one may ask as an American citizen with no ties to the drama across the pond.

Mr Bates vs The Post Office dramatizes the Post Office Horizon scandal or the "most widespread miscarriage of justice in history." According to the BBC, post office branch managers across the UK were wrongly accused of theft and false accounting for almost 20 years, with more than 700 being prosecuted. In reality, it was due to Horizon, faulty software used in the Post Office's central accounting system, making it appear as if money was missing.

Enter the scandal.

When the people accused share the truth, they're fired; forced to repay the huge losses, and in some cases, incarcerated -- including one pregnant woman. These workers went bankrupt, lost their homes, split from their spouses and struggled with mental health.

Alan Bates, our main character played by Toby Jones, has been fighting for 25 years to clear their names.

It's a 4-Part Miniseries
