Video Overview
Many people use personal electronic devices such as iPods to store music, downloads, and other information. Now, Marines can use a tool called the MPod, made just for them and based on the iPod Touch. When he created the MPod, engineering psychologist Peter Squire had a specific type of Marine in mind -- those who work on cars, trucks, and other automotives. Those Marines were using books to help them figure out how to repair each vehicle. With the MPod, the mechanics have that information at their fingertips as well as other handy tools such as a calculator, a translator, and even a flashlight. But this raised the question: would Marines with larger fingertips have trouble using a touch device? Dr. Squire conducted research to find out -- and the results surprised him.
