Edge of the Everglades: Big Cypress National Prese

Narrated by Peter Thomas (Nova), EDGE OF THE EVERGLADES: BIG CYPRESS NATIONAL PRESERVE tells the story of the massive, mysterious marshland that continues to inspire deep passions for and bitter debate about one of the last great wild places in the world. On the western edge of the Everglades, beyond the sawgrass prairies of the famed River of Grass, lies the cypress-studded marshland known as the Big Cypress Swamp. The vast wet wilderness a mosaic of marshes, cypress trees, pinelands and prairies once slated to house the world's largest jetport now stands as a testament to compromise. In 1974, unlikely allies conservationists and hunters brokered a controversial deal which attempted to satisfy both environmental and recreational interests.
