Lgbtq Migrants

LGBTQ people escaping persecution at home say they also face abuse in U.S. immigration detention facilities. There are currently more than 300,000 migrants applying for asylum in the U.S., with many applicants fleeing rampant gang violence and poverty in Central American countries. But a growing number of immigrants rights groups are calling attention to the plight of LGBTQ people, many of whom are seeking asylum because of persecution back home as a result of their gender affiliation and sexuality. Some also say they face similar mistreatment in U.S. immigration detention facilities. NewsHour Weekend's Ivette Feliciano reports.
