Jerry Black was one of the pioneer African-American golfers. Black would go from caddying to qualifying for the Los Angeles Open. He would lead the tournament at one point before finishing ninth. Now he wants to tell the history of African-American golfers. The 1958 movie starring Sidney Poiter and Tony Curtis called "The Defiant ones" has inspired a half marathon obstacle course in Selma. The race seeks to bring people together by literally chaining competitors to one another so they can learn to work as one.
