APT To Hold Online Art Auction
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., July 15, 2009—Alabama Public Television (APT) will host an online art auction beginning July 16 that offers select works of nationally recognized state artisans while generating much-needed revenue for APT’s educational mission. The first fundraiser of its kind for the statewide network, the auction will take place on e-Bay and will feature the work of 18 Alabama craft artists, although additional artists may be added later.
APT’s online auction begins July 16 when six items are placed on the online auction block for a 10-day period. Four new items will be added to the site each week thereafter (new items will appear July 23, July 30 and August 4) for a ten-day auction period. The online auction is scheduled to run through August 14.
Each artist donated his or her art to APT for the auction. For tax purposes, any winning bids over and above the market value of the art will be a tax-deductible charitable donation.
“We appreciate the generous donation of this artwork by so many of Alabama’s artisans,” notes APT Executive Director Allan Pizzato. “Their gift to our network not only helps raise much-needed funds for our mission, but creates renewed awareness for the visionaries who have made Alabama a popular place for southern art collectors.”
